The art of custom design

The creation of your piece is unique, with its own set of challenges. Each piece is crafted to exacting standards to fit your stones perfectly, ensuring a truly bespoke and beautiful result. An average custom jewelry piece we make has between 8 and 15 hours invested in it, a testament to our dedication.

The idea...

I usually start with simple pencilsketches for ideas like flow and balance.   This can take hours or days, just can't rush art.  Often times narrowing down the ideas to just onelook is the most challenging part of the process.

Perfecting the design...

After we have settled on a desisgn idea, I create the CAD (computer aided design) model.  This lays out the stones and gold in 3D so you know exactly what the piece will look like when finished.  Most design can model in 2-8 hours.

Creating the model...

I use a CAD driven 4 axis milling process (CAM) to create wax models tbe cast.  I personally like the wax models  better than I do resin grown models, even though are faster.  The wax model is a better cast product in my opinion.  Milling time can take 1-8 hours depending on the model.

            Casting                           Pre-finishing                            Setting                             Polishing

After being secured in high temperature plaster, your wax model is baked for several hours at over 1300 degrees to leave a hollpw negative space. This is where your molten gold is cast into it under the power of centrifugal force. From there, the rough casting is sanded, polished and prepared for setting.  Once ready, your piece is expertly set with your stones or stones we suplly to you.  After setting is complete a final polish is given to the piece to bring out its final glory.  This overall process from casting to polish can take on average 6-24 hours of bench-time to complete.  I have created pieces with over 60 hours total labor and over a dozen pieces that had to be assembled before setting.
